HALL OF FAME CLASS OF 2013
JERRY HUSZ, Wisconsin Lutheran High School. Jerry had
an outstanding career at Wisconsin Lutheran High, with his
biggest accomplishments being the Little Ten Conference
individual champion in 1976, 1977, and 1978, and of course
his two WISAA individual state titles, in 1976 and 1978.
He was ill prior to the ’77 meet, and finished 28th. His
style was to go out very hard, “put the hammer down,” and
keep it down, for the entire race. His goal as a high school
senior was to win his final race, and he did, at WISAA
State, leading at the mile by 30 yards, and at the finish by 70 yards, over Chris Mozina of Pius XI. He held the Wisco 3200 meter record for eight years. At age 50 he won the Crazylegs 8k in 26:12 (50-59 bracket). As a nearly 50 year old, he ran 20:35 in the four mile Lighthouse Run.
MIKE MILLER, Dominican High/Whitefish Bay High.
Mike has had an outstanding career coaching at Dominican and Whitefish Bay, but his career began as a student athlete,
running for Norb Wishowski at Thomas More, and winning
a state title in the process in 1976. As a coach, Miller
chalked up girls state titles in 1984 and 2008, and a boys
state title in 2005. He has four girls runner-up finishes,
in ’83, ’85, ’07, and ’09. He has earned 14 sectional titles,
and 8 runner-finishes among boys/girls. His teams have
also won 22 conference titles at both schools. In addition
to Wishowski, Miller credits Paul Malek and a number of
outstanding assistants to his long-running programs. He
says the parents and runners at both schools have been
RON WOOD, Cedar Grove/Belgium High School. Ron
had a thirty year career coaching cross country at CG/B. He
began his career “quietly,” but in the late 80’s, success came
in bunches. First it was the boys, winning Central Lakeshore titles in 1988, ’93, ’94, ’95, and ’97, as well as 2008, ’09,
and ’10, and then the girls, who won conference titles in
1998. ’99, and 2000, as well as 2007 and ‘09. His boys
teams made five appearances at State, with the girls earning
their way seven times. For Wood, it all came together with a
boys State Championship in 2009. He has had two boys and
one girl win individual state titles, while six boys and two
girls were state medalists.
